No. 4 Golfers Return Home to Play in Atlanta Intercollegiate

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech golf team stays at home this week to play in the Atlanta Intercollegiate at the Eagles Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga. this Monday and Tuesday. The tournament, which is being hosted by Georgia State, will feature the top four college teams in the country: Florida (No. 1), Clemson (No. 2), Georgia (No. 3 and Georgia Tech (No. 4).

The tournament, which begins Monday, will carry a standard 4-of-5 scoring format, with 36 holes to be played Monday and 18 holes to be played Tuesday. Tee times will begin at 7:30 a.m. Monday and 8:00 a.m. Tuesday.

The Atlanta Intercollegiate features a handful of the nations top golfers. Included in the field are Camilo Villegas and Matt Every of Florida, who are No. 4 and No. 7 respectively. Matt Hendrix (No. 10) and Jack Ferguson (No. 14) of Clemson finish out the top 15. Finishing out the top 25 include Lars Brevold (No. 17) of Alabama, Nicholas Thompson (No. 23) of Georgia Tech and Brendon Todd (No. 25) of Georgia.

The Jackets are entering the event coming off of a third place finish in the Western Intercollegiate in Santa Cruz. The finish marked the second straight tournament that the Jackets have finished in the top ten. In the event, Tech was paced by Nicholas Thompson and Mike Barbosa who finished tied for fourth at even par. Roberto Castro was not far behind as he shot two over par to finished tied for seventh.

This spring Tech has won one event, the Taylor Made Waikoloa Intercollegiate, and finished in the top ten three times.
