Nissan #ProJackets Golf Report

Aug. 30, 2016

THE FLATS – Recent Georgia Tech graduates Richy Werenski and Ollie Schniederjans officially received their PGA Tour cards Sunday following the completion of play at the WinCo Foods Portland Open, joining the six current Tour members for the 2016-17 season.

That means the duo will have a busy fall participating in as many of the Tour’s first seven events in October and November, attempting to accumulate as much money and FedEx Cup points as possible before the Tour’s top players return to regular action in January.

Werenski, who won the BMW Charity Pro-Am in May, had a chance to take over the top spot in earnings with a victory over the weekend with a victory. He moved into a tie for the lead on Sunday but settled back into a tie for 11th place and finished the Web.com Tour’s regular season as the No. 2 earner with $351,770. Schniederjans opened the tournament with scores of 69-67, but stumbled on the weekend and finished 74th. He wound up No. 6 in earnings with $279,127.

Former Yellow Jacket Anders Albertson, who finished 55th in earnings on the Web.com Tour this year, will participate in the Finals along with Schniederjans and Werenski.

The Web.com Tour has this week off before beginning its four-event Finals next weekend at the DAP Championship in Beachwood, Ohio. Players who finished among the top 25 in regular-season earnings, while having earned their PGA Tour cards, are still playing for different levels of status with their performance in the Finals. The player who finished the Finals No. 1 in combined regular-season and Finals earnings will be fully exempt on the PGA Tour in 2016-17.

With the week off between the regular-season and Finals, Schniederjans went through a media tour in the New York area Monday and Tuesday, which included ringing the closing bell of the NASDAQ stock exchange. He also appeared on business programs airing on the CNBC and Bloomberg networks.

FedEx Cup Playoffs: Matt Kuchar was the only one of four Yellow Jackets to make the cut in the opening round at The Barclays last weekend at Bethpage State Park, but Roberto Castro and Bryce Molder joined Kuchar in moving on to the second stage this week, the Deutsche Bank Championship in Norton, Mass., outside of Boston.

Kuchar struggled on the Black Course, opening with a pair of 1-over-par 72s to open before shooting 76 on Saturday. He closed strong with a 69 Sunday. Castro dropped to 64th in the FedEx Cup rankings, while Molder fell to No. 94. The top 70 in points following the Deutsche Bank this weekend move on to the BMW Championship next weekend in Carmel, Ind.
