Nissan #ProJackets Golf Report

Aug. 15, 2017

THE FLATS – Matt Kuchar continued his stellar performance in the 2017 major championship events, rallying to card 70-68 over the weekend on the difficult Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C., and tie for ninth place at the PGA Championship.

With his sixth top-10 finish of the year, he finished off a tremendous year in the majors, adding this performance to his runner-up finish at the Open Championship, a tie for 16th at the U.S. Open and a tie for fourth at the Masters. He was one of 13 golfers to make the cut at all four majors. Further, he inched up to 15th in the FedEx Cup standings (top 30 qualify for the season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta) and moved up a spot to eighth in points for the Presidents Cup (top 10 are automatically chosen for the United States team).

In the opening round of the 2017 PGA Championship, Matt Kuchar pitches his third shot in the cup for birdie from short of the green on the par-4 2nd hole.

In the third round of the 2017 PGA Championship, Matt Kuchar’s fantastic 178-yard tee shot nearly goes in at the par-3 17th hole.

Kuchar is idle this week, while Roberto Castro, Bryce Molder, Ollie Schniederjans and Richy Werenski answer a last call for the FedEx Cup playoffs in the PGA Tour’s regular-season finale, the Wyndham Championship at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.

Schniederjans (74) and Werenski (122) are currently in position to play next week (top 125 in points qualify for the first event, the Northern Trust in Old Westbury, N.Y.), while Castro (173), Molder (186) and Tringale (126) are on the outside looking in. Meanwhile, Chesson Hadley, currently No. 2 in Web.com Tour earnings this season, returns to his home state to make his fourth PGA Tour start since winning the LECOM Health Challenge back on July 9.

Werenski moved into the top 125 last week when he nearly pulled off his first PGA Tour victory, falling on the third hole of a playoff to Chris Stroud at the Barracuda Championship in Reno, Nev. The PGA Tour rookie has finished T25, T18, T42 and T2 in his last four events to leap 35 spots in the FedEx Cup standings. Read more below…

Stewart Cink, 73rd in FedEx Cup points, also is taking the week off but still made some news Monday. The 1995 Tech graduate and All-American was named the 2017 recipient of the Payne Stewart Award, given annually to the PGA Tour player who best exemplifies Stewart’s steadfast values of character, charity and sportsmanship. Web.com Tour: In his first Web.com Tour start since winning the LECOM Health Challenge in early July, Chesson Hadley contended from start to finish and placed third at the Price Cutter Charity Championship (23-under 265). He further cemented his PGA Tour card for 2017-18, moving up to second in earnings on the Web.com Tour this season. Nicholas Thompson also made a significant charge on the weekend, tying for fourth place (22-under 266) to elevate himself to 29th in earnings with two regular-season events left to play. The top 25 after the regular-season earn PGA Tour cards for 2017-18.

Following his opening-round 65 at the 2017 Price Cutter Charity Championship presented by Dr Pepper, Chesson Hadley discusses the tough start to his morning, but once on the golf course turned out to be an excellent day.
