Nissan #ProJackets Golf Report

June 7, 2016

THE FLATS – Matt Kuchar took aim at earning his second career victory at the Memorial this weekend, opening with a pair of 66s and adding a 70 on Saturday to share the lead after 54 holes, but the former Georgia Tech All-American faltered on the back nine and settled for a tie for fourth place, two strokes off the lead.

Still, Kuchar notched his fourth straight top-10 finish and fifth in his last six starts, moving up to 18th in FedEx Cup points and continuing his quest for an automatic spot on the United States team for the 2016 Ryder Cup. Kuchar surpassed $2.5 million in earning for this year on the PGA Tour and moved up one spot to ninth in Ryder Cup points. The top eight after the PGA Championship will make the U.S. team automatically.

Meanwhile, Roberto Castro closed with a 6-under-par 66 and sneaked into a tie for 11th place at 277 (-11), nudging up one spot to 38th in FedEx Cup points. He surpassed $1.5 million in earnings for 2015-16 and has five top-25 finishes in 18 events.

Following his third-round at the 2016 Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide, Matt Kuchar talks about an unlucky bounce and how he’s always prepared for all sorts of weather conditions at the Memorial.

Web.com Tour: After a one-week break in the Web.com Tour schedule, Richy Werenski picked up where he left off with an opening-round 66 at the Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship in the Dominican Republic. Werenski had won the last stop on the tour at the BMW Charity Pro-Am for his first Web.com victory, and this time settled for a tie for 3rd place. He remains second in earnings for 2016. Anders Albertson and Kyle Scott both missed the cut, and Ollie Schniederjans, who ranks 10th in earnings, took the week off and played Monday in a U.S. Open sectional qualifier in Roswell, Ga.

Following his opening-round 66 at the 2016 Corales Puntacana Resort and Club Championship Richy Werenski talks about his confidence and how he is playing.

MacKenzie Tour: Seth Reeves made it 2-for-2 in cuts made on the PGA Tour Canada, tying for 43rd place at the Bayview Place Island Savings Open in British Colombia.

Rivals Cup: Georgia Tech’s deep roster on the PGA and Web.com Tours continues to keep the Yellow Jackets near the top in collective earnings among alumni rankings compiled by the Rivals Cup. Headed into last week’s action, Tech ranked No. 3 in earnings on the PGA Tour and No. 2 on the Web.com Tour.

U.S. Open: It appears that Matt Kuchar will be the lone Georgia Tech representative in the 116th U.S. Open championship, set for June 16-19 at Oakmont Country Club outside Pittsburgh, Pa. Kuchar qualified by advancing to the 2015 PGA Tour Championship and his standing among the top 60 in the Official World Golf Ranking (16th). None of the other past, present and future Yellow Jackets who participated in sectional qualifying on Monday advanced. Cameron Tringale came the closest, finishing one stroke out of a playoff for the final position in Powell, Ohio. Roberto Castro and Jacob Joiner were the highest finishers (T-6) among six Yellow Jackets that played in the sectional at Ansley Golf Club-Settindown Creek in Roswell, Ga., but only three positions were available in the 38-player field.
