Nissan #ProJackets Golf Report

April 12, 2016

THE FLATS – Three-time All-American Ollie Schniederjans, playing the fourth event of his rookie season on the Web.com Tour, nearly pulled off his first professional victory last weekend, losing a playoff for the title of the Servientrega Championship in Cartagena, Colombia.

The 2015 Tech graduate shook off an opening 74 to shoot 68-66-69 on the weekend to force a playoff with Brad Fritsch, which he lost after putting two balls in the water on the first playoff hole. The finish vaulted Schniederjans to ninth place on the Web.com Tour earnings list, and after missing the cut in his first two events on the tour, he has finished in a 35th-place tie and as a runner-up the last two weeks.

Final round recap

His four-year teammate, Anders Albertson, tied for 30th place to maintain his position at 15th in the Web.com money list, and Kyle Scott also tied for 49th.

Meanwhile, Matt Kuchar tied for 24th at The Masters, never challenging but remaining steady over his four rounds. Larry Mize, the 1987 Masters champion, made his second cut in three years and tied for 52nd place.

Kuchar had this to say about Augusta National: “Sometimes I think it’s not so bad. It’s the sidehill putts that I think are the hardest. The downhill ones are fast, but you have a chance to make them if you have the right line. It’s the side-hillers that break 2 feet, 6 feet, that you really go, ‘I don’t have much of a chance of making this.’ I think those are the hardest. I remember my first time, I guess my feel has improved, but I used to have to pretend the hole was halfway. I’d putt to a spot that was 5 feet in front of me for a 10-foot putt. I felt like you just had to be really creative. (Asked if he ever putted one off a green). No, no. Only at Seminole Golf Club did I putt one into a bunker.

This week, Kuchar is among five Yellow Jackets in Hilton Head, S.C., for the RBC Heritage, which he won in 2014. Two-time Heritage champ Stewart Cink also is in the field along with Roberto Castro, Chesson Hadley and Bryce Molder.
