Men's Golf To Compete In The Carpet Capital Collegiate

ATLANTA (October 5) — The Georgia Tech men’s golf team will make one of its few “home” appearances of the 2000-01 season when it travels to Dalton, Ga. to compete in the Carpet Capital Collegiate, October 6-8. The 54-hole event will be contested at the 6,906-yard, par-72 Farm in Dalton.

The Yellow Jackets have won the tournament on four different occasions in the 11-year history of the event, including winning by 12 strokes last year.

Tech will be led by senior Bryce Molder (Conway, Ark.), who has won or shared the Carpet Capital Collegiate individual title in each of the past three years and is coming off his sixth career victory two weeks ago at the Ping/Golfweek Preview in Durham, N.C. Molder’s six career wins rank third on Tech all-time list behind David Duval (8) and Matt Kuchar (7).

Also competing this weekend for the Yellow Jackets will be sophomoe Troy Matteson (Austin, Texas), senior Wes Latimer (Woodstock, Ga.) and juniors Matt Weibring (Plano, Texas) and Kris Mikkelsen (Woodstock, Ga.).

Play in the tounament gets under way Friday at 8:30 a.m., with 18 holes being played each day and the final round being contested on Sunday.
