Men's Golf Tied for Fourth After Second Day of Golfweek Preview

ATLANTA (Sept. 20) – Georgia Tech’s golf team shot three-over-par as a team Monday and finished the second day of the Golfweek Preview Invitational tied for fourth place. The tournament, which is being held at the 6,985-yard, par 72 Lake Course at the Grand National Golf Club, is currently being led by No. 1 Clemson, which is 13-strokes under par and three ahead of second-place Northwestern.

Tech sits at 290-291–591 after two days and is tied with Arizona State for fourth place at five over par. Georgia is in third, just six strokes ahead of the Jackets and 13 behind the Tigers. Sophomore Matt Weibring (Plano, Texas) paced Tech with a one-under 71 to end at even par 73-71–144. Senior Matt Kuchar (Lake Mary, Fla.) ended at 72-73–145, while junior Bryce Molder (Conway, Ark.) was at 73-74–147 and redshirt-freshman Troy Matteson (Austin, Texas) was at 72-75–147. Senior Carlton Forrester (Gainesville, Ga.) ended the day at 77-73–150. Clemson’s Lucas Glover was the clubhouse leader after firing a five-under-par 67 to complete a two-day total of 71-67–138 (six-under-par).

Three teams did not complete play due to rain — New Mexico, host Auburn and Florida– and will complete their second round on Tuesday. Rain caused two separate delays and two hours worth of stoppage time.

Golfweek has assembled the top 18 teams from its final national poll of a year ago at Grand National as a preview for this year’s NCAA championship, which will be held their May 31-June 3.
