Jackets Inch Up to 10th at Hilo Golf

Kohala Coast, Hawai’i –

David Dragoo fired an even par 72 and moved into the top 20, and Cameron Tringale shot s 73 to pace Georgia Tech and lift the 10th-ranked Yellow Jackets up to 10th place after 36 holes at the UH-Hilo Intercollegiate Thursday.

Dragoo, a senior from Scottsdale, Ariz., is in a six-way for 13th place at 1-over-par 145, seven strokes off the lead of Washington’s Richard Lee, who shot 70 Thursday and completed 36 holes at 6-under 138. Tringale’s 73 lifted the Laguna Niguel, Calif., senior into a four-way tie for 22nd place at 3-over 147.

Tech improved with a team total of 295 on Thursday, and finished two rounds at 20-over-par 596, 27 shots off the pace of No. 2-ranked Southern California. The Trojans shot 284 Thursday and are one of two teams under par for 36 holes (7-under 569). Washington is four shots shy of USC at 3-under 573, followed by Colorado (8-over), Stanford and Texas Tech (both at 9-over).

Sophomore J.T. Griffin and junior Chesson Hadley each fired 75s Thursday, while James White posted a 77 and did not count for the Jackets. Griffin is tied for 42nd place at 7-over 151, while Hadley is tied for 53rd at 9-over 153. White is tied for 69th at 157.

Tech freshman Minghao Wang, playing as an individual, shot a 77 Thursday and is tied for 69th.

The final round begins at 12:30 Eastern time Friday.
