THE FLATS – Stewart Cink and Cameron Tringale both made the cut at the PGA Tour’s first Florida stop last weekend at the Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and four more recent Georgia Tech graduates found success on two other fronts last week.
Cink tied for 31st, nine shots behind winner Padraig Harrington after posting rounds of 73-71-69-70 (3-over-par 283), while Tringale was another two strokes back, tied for 44th, after rounds of 71-70-72-72 (5-over 285) at PGA National. Nicholas Thompson, Chesson Hadley and Roberto Castro missed the cut.
Tringale and Cink made marginal improvements in their FedEx Cup standings, to 105th and 117th, respectively.
Hadley travels to Rio Grande, Puerto Rico this week to defend his 2014 title at the Puerto Rico Open at Trump International Golf Club, where he’ll be joined by Castro, Thompson, David Duval, Troy Matteson, Bryce Molder.
Molder and Tringale are in the field for the first World Golf Championships event of the year, the Cadillac Championship at Trump National Doral in Miami, Fla.
Seth Reeves and James White tied for third place last week in the first event in the pro series on the SwingThought.com Tour, which took place at Kinderlou Forest in Valdosta, Ga. Both players finished at 3-under-par 213, three shots off the pace. Bo Andrews tied for 20th place and John-Tyler Griffin tied for 31st at the opening event on the eGolf Tour, the Palmetto Hall Championship on Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Meanwhile, Richard Werenski and Matt Weibring resume their Web.com Tour competition in the Cartagena de Indias at Karibana Championship in Cartagena, Columbia. Werenski is back in competition while he and former teammate Kyle Scott watch their reality series “Big Break at the Palm Beaches,” unfold on the Golf Channel.
