ATLANTA – Roberto Castro shot a second round 66 to move up to a tie for second place to pace first place Georgia Tech at the 58th annual Western Intercollegiate in Santa Cruz, California.
The tournament, which is being played at Santa Cruz’s luxurious Pasatiempo Golf Course (6,445 yards/Par 70), concludes this Tuesday. The 54-hole event carries a standard 4-of-5 scoring format, with 36 holes to be played Monday and the final 18 holes Tuesday.
Tech’s 36-hole total of 562, two over par, puts them into a tie for first place with Colorado and California. First-round leader UC-Riverside slipped to fourth place at 566. Long Beach State rounds out the top five teams in the 15-team field at 570.
Castro’s four under par second round score moved him to a tie for second place. Mike Barbosa moved up the leader board, shooting a 67 in the second round, moving up to a tie for fifth place. Nicholas Thompson shot his second round of even par to remain in eighth place for the tournament.
