ATLANTA – Georgia Tech held onto its lead after posting a three-over-par score of 291 Thursday, but the 5th-ranked Yellow Jackets watched their advantage shrink as UC-Davis and UCLA crept to within two shots after the second round of the Taylor Made-Waikoloa Intercollegiate.
Tech has a 36-hole total of 563, 13 shots under par over the 7,074-yard, par 72 King’s Course. UC-Davis fired a seven-under-par 281 Thursday, and UCLA shot 283 and are tied for second place at 11-under-par 565. Washington holds fourth place at 566, with Arizona State and Arkansas another five strokes back at 571.
Junior Chan Wongluekiet posted Tech’s best score of the day, a 71 that lifted him into eighth place in the medal race at four-under-par 140. Nicholas Thompson was unable to keep his first-round pace (a 64), carding a 77 that dropped him into 13th place at three-under-par 141.
Freshman Kevin Larsen shot 73 and is tied for 20th place at one-under 143. Mike Barbosa is tied for 29th at even-par 144, and Roberto Castro is tied for 48th at 146.
