Golfers Jump to Second at Golfweek Preview

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech and Georgia each shot four-under-par scores of 284 Tuesday, with the defending national champion Bulldogs maintaining their 10-shot lead while the sixth-ranked Yellow Jackets moved into second place after two rounds of the Golfweek Preview Invitational in Sunriver, Ore.

All-American Roberto Castro led the Jackets with a five-under-par 67 on the 7,671-yard Crosswater Golf Club, while senior Mike Barbosa carded a three-under 69 and junior Kevin Larsen matched his first-round score of 71.

Tech is two shots ahead of third-place Oklahoma State, which posted the day’s best score of 283. Augusta State moved into fourth place after a two-under-par round of 286, while UNLV held the fifth spot after posting a 292. New Mexico and Kentucky are tied for sixth another shot back with the final round still to play Wednesday.

Castro, a junior from Alpharetta, Ga., who had six birdies and one bogey on his card, is tied for fifth place individually with James Lepp of Washington at four-under-par 140. He is four strokes behind Georgia freshman Brian Harman, who shot 67 Tuesday and has a 36-hole total of 136, eight under par. Pablo Martin of Oklahoma State shot 64 Tuesday and is tied with Wake Forest’s Webb Simpson for second place at seven-under 137. Seung-su Hen of UNLV holds fourth place at six-under 138.

Larsen, from Santa Barbara, Calif., is tied for 10th place at two-under-par 142, while Barbosa, from St. Petersburg, Fla., also had made six birdies Tuesday and is tied for 14th place at even-par 144. Freshman Cameron Tringale shot 77 for Tech Tuesday and is tied for 51st place at 152.
