Golfers Finish Third at Western Intercollegiate

ATLANTA – Nicholas Thompson fired his third straight round of par to help lead Georgia Tech to a third place finish at the 58th annual Western Intercollegiate in Santa Cruz, California.

Tech shot a thirteen-over-par 293 on Tuesday at Pasatiempo Golf Club (6,445 Yards, par 70), to fall to third. The Jackets were tied after the second round for first place with eventual winner Colorado and second place finisher California.

Colorado’s Kane Webber took the individual title by shooting 68 Tuesday to finish at 4-under-par 206, two shots ahead of Long Beach’s Bret Lederer (68 – 208). Only six golfers finished at par or better for 54 holes, including Georgia Tech’s Thompson and Mike Barbosa who finished tied for fourth at even par.

Roberto Castro also cracked the top-10 mark for the Jackets shooting a final day 74 to finish tied for seventh.

Rounding out the scoring for Tech, were Chan Wongluekiet who finished tied for 45th and Kevin Larsen who tied for 74th carding a final round 78.
