ATLANTA – Roberto Castro fired a three-under-par 69 Friday and moved into a tie for seventh place individually, while No. 2-ranked Georgia Tech posted a five-under-par team score of 283 and improved to fifth place after 36 holes of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Golf Championship in Las Vegas, Nev.
Tech (283 – 580) is tied with Wake Forest (283 – 580), just five strokes behind host team UNLV (281 – 575). Top-ranked Oklahoma State is in second place at 284 – 576, tied with Arizona State (288 – 576), while Georgia stands fourth at 281 – 577).
The final 18 holes will be played Sunday.
Castro, part of a large group of players at one-under-par 143 for the tournament, is five shots off the lead of South Carolina’s Mark Anderson (72 – 138). Spencer Levin of New Mexico and Ryan Moore of UNLV, who both shot 67 Friday, are tied for second at 140.
Mike Barbosa shot 74 Friday for Tech and is tied for 15th place at even-par 144. Nicholas Thompson shot 72 Friday and is tied for 22nd place at 146, while Kevin Larsen and Chan Song, who both carded 71s Friday, are tied for 47th place at 150.
