The 36-hole cut fell very low last weekend at Torrey Pines Golf Club in La Jolla, Calif., and it took all eight Yellow jackets in the field with it. Stewart Cink. Roberto Castro, Ollie Schniederjans and Cameron Tringale all scored under par for the first two rounds, but minus-3 was the cutline, and the final winning score was 21-under-par.
Richy Werenski and Seth Reeves, who shot 66 and 67 respectively, on the North Course in the opening round, found the championship-caliber South Course too troublesome and fired 80 and 79 on Friday.
They’ll put those issues behind them this week when the PGA Tour moves to the Arizona desert for the Waste Management Phoenix Open, actually in Scottsdale, Ariz. Matt Kuchar returns to action for the first time after winning the Sony Open in Hawai’i three weeks ago, joining Cink, Schniederjans, Werenski, Anders Albertson and Chesson Hadley, giving the Jackets a strong six-player presence.
Web.com Tour/Champions Tour: The Web.com Tour returns to action Thursday in Bogota, Colombia, where Vincent Whaley is among the players to watch after his runner-up finish last week at the Great Abaco Classic in the Bahamas. Paul Haley II and Nicholas Thompson are also in the field. The Champions Tour is off until next weekend.
