Georgia Tech #ProJackets Golf Report

THE FLATS – Chesson Hadley goes low four days, Stewart Cink also has big weekend in Malaysia … Four former Yellow Jackets have advanced to the second stage of Q-school for the Web.com Tour… This and more in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Report.

Chesson Hadley made the most of his first opportunity to play in the overseas part of the PGA Tour’s fall schedule, posting rounds of 67-68-66-66 to tie for second place last weekend at the CIMB Classic in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Like last season, Hadley has gotten his season off to a bang, moving up to seventh in FedEx Cup points. The 2010 Tech graduate spent most of last season in the top 30 on the strength of high finishes early in the schedule.

Stewart Cink also enjoyed a fine weekend, tying for 13th place with rounds of 68-70-63-69, and moved up to 28th in FedEx Cup points.

Both players travel to South Korea this weekend for the CJ Cup at Nine Bridges before turning back home for the remainder of the fall slate. Ollie Schniederjans, who finished 74th in the limited-field CIMB, is an alternate for the CJ Cup (as of Monday).

The rest of Tech’s PGA Tour roster will return to action next week in the Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Miss.

Web.com Tour:  Four former Yellow Jackets have advanced to the second stage of Web.com Tour qualifying school in the past two weeks. Most recently, Vincent Whaley and Chris Petefish advanced out of the first stage qualifying last week (Oct. 9-12) at the Club at Irish Creek in Kannapolis, N.C., while Drew Czuchry did not advance at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga. Whaley won medalist honors at Irish Creek by two strokes with an 18-under-par total of 266, while Petefish tied for 14th place at 276 (-8) as 23 players advanced.

The week before, J.T. Griffin, who earned more than $20,000 in five late starts on the Web.com Tour this summer, easily made it through the first stage of qualifying at Highland Oaks Golf Club in Dothan, Ala., tying for 12th place Paul Haley, who has competed on the Adams Pro Tour this summer, rallied over the final 36 holes to tie for 20th and also advance.

Second stage events take place Nov. 6-9 in four locations, with one other Oct. 30-Nov. 2. The Q-school finals set for Dec. 6-9 in Chandler, Ariz.

PGA Tour Champions:  Larry Mize tied for 56th at last weekend’s SAS Championship and is in the field for the first Charles Schwab Cup playoff event this week, the Dominion Energy Charity Classic in Richmond, Va. The Schwab Cup playoffs comprise three events, culminating in the Charles Schwab Cup Championship, Nov. 8-11 in Phoenix, Ariz.

Elsewhere: Shun Yat Hak, a member of Georgia Tech’s 2013 team, closed his 2018 PGA Tour China season with a 9-under-par 61, helping him tie for 25th place at the season-ending Clearwater Bay Open. He tied for 37th in the final order of merit.
