THE FLATSJ.T. Griffin and Tyler Strafaci, who just finished their 2022 seasons in Canada, advance to stage 2 of Korn Ferry Tour Q-School … Six Yellow Jackets gathering in Jackson, Miss., for Sanderson Farms Championship this weekend … More details below in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Report.

GRIFFIN, STRAFACI ADVANCE IN KORN FERRY Q-SCHOOL

J.T. Griffin and Tyler Strafaci, who spent the 2022 season North of the border playing PGA Tour Canada events, were successful in their first stage of qualifying for the Korn Ferry Tour, both advancing to stage 2 from separate events last week.

Strafaci, finished 49th on the Canadian tour’s order of merit and had four top-20 finishes, tied for sixth place with a 14-under-par score of 270 and was one of 25 players to advance from the Crown Colony Golf Club in Fort Myers, Fla. Griffin, who had a pair of top-10s and finished 45th in the order of merit, tied for 21st at 15-under-par 273 and was one of 26 players to move on from Magnolia Grove-Crossing in Semmes, Ala.

Q-school consists of three stages. Players advancing past the 72-hole first stage, which is conducted at 12 sites around the country in September, compete in another 72-hole competition at one of five sites in October, with the survivors coming together Nov. 4-7 in Savannah, Ga., for the final stage of qualifying.

Luke Schniederjans, who also played on the Canadian circuit this summer, will begin his trek in a stage 1 event this week in Chardon, Ohio.

Recent Tech graduates Will Dickson and Ben Smith both competed in their first stage qualifier two weeks ago in Kannapolis, N.C., neither able to advance.

SIX JACKETS GATHER AT SANDERSON FARMS CHAMPIONSHIP

Six Yellow Jackets are going to Jackson, Miss., for the resumption of the PGA Tour schedule this weekend at the Sanderson Farms Championship.

Korn Ferry Tour graduates Anders Albertson and Paul Haley II are in the field along with veterans Stewart Cink, Chesson Hadley, Richy Werenski and Vincent Whaley. Only Matt Kuchar is not competing this week.

Haley enjoyed a strong start to his second PGA Tour season with a tie for 12th place at the Fortinet Championship two weeks ago in Napa, Calif. Hadley tied for 45th, and Whaley tied for 65th at Sanderson Farms last year, both looking to rebound from missed cuts at the Fortinet event along with Cink and Werenski.

DUVAL CRUISING THROUGH FIRST PGA TOUR CHAMPIONS SEASON

David Duval turned professional 30 years ago, a tenure during which he’s experienced as much as any golfer. He’s won tournaments from Argentina to Japan. He has been ranked No. 1 in the world and plummeted from consideration. He’s shot 59 and 91 on the PGA Tour.

The current most pertinent number for Duval is 50, his age. The former British Open winner hasn’t won an individual event since his three-shot triumph in 2001 at Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Club in England. But the PGA Tour Champions circuit has provided another outlet.

Duval will compete in his 19th career event on the circuit for players at least age 50 beginning Friday in the Pure Insurance Championship at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course. He hasn’t played full-time on any tour for nearly a decade.

The 19th annual 54-hole event will feature 78 PGA Tour Champions players, 78 juniors from the First Tee, the national youth development program, and 156 amateurs.
