THE FLATS – Steady performance results in a strong finish at U.S. Open for Cameron Tringale … Paul Haley II continues strong run on Korn Ferry Tour … J.T. Griffin earns a top-10 finish on PGA Tour Canada … More details below in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Report.

TRINGALE POSTS HIGH FINISH AT U.S. OPEN
Continuing a standout season on the PGA Tour, Cameron Tringale posted the highest finish of his career at the U.S. Open, a tie for 14th place last week at The Country Club at Brookline, Mass. Tringale played steady golf all weekend, carding rounds of 71-71-71-69 for a 2-over-par total of 282.
Tringale has been Tech’s top player on the PGA Tour in the 2021-22 season, sitting No. 32 in FedEx Cup points, just outside the top 30 needed to qualify for the season-ending Tour Championship.
Stewart Cink missed the cut by one stroke in his 22nd U.S. Open start, remaining at No. 126 on the FedEx Cup list, one spot shy of qualifying for the FedEx Cup playoffs, which begin in mid-August. Cink is in the field for this week’s Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Conn., site of his first PGA Tour victory in 1997 in his second year as a pro.
Tringale also is in the field at the Travelers. Also returning to action (FedEx Cup position in parentheses) are Chesson Hadley (No. 206), Seth Reeves (No. 176), Richy Werenski (No. 191) and Vincent Whaley (No. 114).

My 1st time playing at Brookline this week @usopengolf but a great experience. One fabulous feature is the flow. After playing topsy-turvy wild terrain, you burst out onto the flats for 15-18 and it feels like you enter the old race course that used to exist there. #backstretch

Never played The Country Club before a few weeks ago but I’d have to say it’s quickly become a top five personal favorite course. Not gonna be easy but what a treat to compete here! @usopengolf pic.twitter.com/4UqryrBoFI

HALEY CONTINUES BID TO EARN PGA TOUR CARD
Paul Haley II continued to solidify his chances to earn a PGA Tour card, tying for 11th place last weekend at the Wichita (Kan.) Open. The 2011 Tech graduate and ACC Champion posted a 15-under-par total of 265, heighted by scores of 63-64 in the middle two rounds.
Haley has six finishes of 11th or higher in 10 events this season, and inched up to 12th place on the Korn Ferry Tour points list. He has finished T11, T6, T7 and T11 in his last four tournaments.
Tech has a chance to add two players to its PGA Tour roster for 2022-23, with Anders Albertson at 13th on the points list with six regular season events remaining. Albertson, who has a win at the Visit Knoxville Open to his credit this season, returns to action along with Chris Petefish this week at the Live and Work in Maine Open. Petefish opened the Wichita event with a 68 but withdrew in the middle of round 2.

GRIFFIN EARNS TOP-10 FINISH IN PGA TOUR
J.T. Griffin, who has been unable to gain traction on the Korn Ferry Tour this season, traveled North of the border last weekend for the ATB Classic in Alberta and tied for seventh place, posting a 14-under-par score of 284 in his first event on that tour, likely earning himself another start.
Griffin joined tour regulars Luke Schniederjans, who tied for 23rd place, and Tyler Strafaci, who tied for 45th.
Griffin’s finish puts him at 21st on the Canadian tour’s points list, while Schniederjans is 29th and Strafaci is 68th. The top 10 in points at the end of the season earn status on the Korn Ferry Tour.

DICKSON REMAINS SOLID ON GPRO TOUR
First-year pro Will Dickson tied for 17th place at the GPro Tour’s High Point Open last week (209, -4), continuing a solid beginning to his professional career which includes a victory. Recent graduate Ben Smith made his professional debut at the High Point Open but missed the cut, while 2021 grad Noah Norton withdrew following an opening-round 66.
The GPro Tour has two more events on its schedule, both in the next two weeks. Dickson and Smith are in the field for this week’s Mimosa Open in Morganton, N.C.

You think it’s tough to win a Major? Fitzpatrick was there all week. Hit 17 greens on Sunday. Made a bomb. Got a couple breaks. And was playing a course where he has magical memories. And he won by ONE.
