FIVE JACKETS IN THE FIELD FOR THE PLAYERS

Five of the seven Yellow Jackets on the PGA Tour are in the field this week for its premier event, The Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. Stewart Cink, Chesson Hadley, Matt Kuchar, Cameron Tringale and Richy Werenski are set to play the stadium course at TPC Sawgrass.

Kuchar, currently No. 110 in the FedEx Cup standings, returns to the scene of one of his nine Tour victories, winning the event in 2012.

Vincent Whaley made the cut last weekend at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, tying for 61^st place after a closing 79, while Tringale missed the cut. Tringale slipped only two spots in the FedEx Cup standings to No. 18. Whaley is No. 91.

All three Tech golfers took home paychecks at the Puerto Rico Open, with Werenski tying for 28^th (280, -8), Seth Reeves tying for 41^st (283, -5) and Hadley tying for 61^st (287, -1).

DUVAL BACK IN TUCSON WHERE HE ONCE SHOT 62

David Duval was still about a year away from reaching World No. 1 but he arrived in Tucson having won three of his last eight starts. By that Sunday night, he was leaving town with another, giving him four wins in nine outings — the best in professional golf since Nick Price won four out of six PGA Tour events in 1994.

Along the way there was some bad weather. The back half of Friday’s second round was hit by a rainstorm but Duval was out early and posted a second-round 62 that featured two hole-outs from the fairway for eagle.

Duval was back in Tucson, Arizona, as a rookie on the PGA Tour Champions, with some recollections of that wild week 24 years ago. This time, he tied for 69th in the Cologuard Classic at the Omni Tucson National.

INSIDE THE ROPES WITH STEWART CINK

It’s the last look at the course before players hit the tee box bright and early Thursday for the first round of the Honda Classic.

One of the pros in the tournament, Stewart Cink, is an 8-time winner on tour and a major champion.

Cink let Yianni Kourakis hang around for his 30-minute warmup on the driving range. Here’s a look behind the scenes.

For the follow up to his first professional victory two weeks ago at the GPro Tour Daytona Open, Will Dickson returns to action this week at the Crooked Cat Open on the Florida Elite Golf Tour. He joins Luke Schniederjans in the field at Orange County National Golf Club.

Andy Ogletree and Chris Petefish are in the field at the first 2022 AllPro Tour event, the Coke Dr. Pepper Open in Alexandria, La.
