THE FLATS – Tyler Strafaci makes first PGA Tour cut while Cameron Tringale and Stewart Cink also advance to the weekend … J.T. Griffin and Paul Haley II post solid finishes on the Korn Ferry Tour … More below in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Report.
*****
THREE JACKETS MAKE CUT AT THE MEMORIAL
Tyler Strafaci, in his second PGA Tour event as a professional, made his first cut last weekend at the Memorial Tournament, tying for 57th place with a 7-over-par score at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. The 2019 U.S. Amateur championship had some familiarity with the Muirfield Village course, having played in an event there with his Georgia Tech teammates in 2018.
He was one of three Yellow Jackets to play the weekend, with Cameron Tringale tying for 26th place and two-time 2020-21 winner Stewart Cink tying for 47th place. Tringale moved up to 37th place in the FedEx Cup points list, while Cink sits in 10th place.
Ricky Werenski (No. 96) missed the cut, while Matt Kuchar (No. 93) withdrew during the opening round with a forearm injury.
Of those players, only Richy Werenski is in the field for a new Tour event this week, the Palmetto Championship at Congaree in Ridgeland, S.C., where he’ll join Roberto Castro, Chesson Hadley and Vincent Whaley. Cink, Kuchar and Strafaci, who are exempt into next week’s U.S. Open, are taking the week off.

GRIFFIN, HALEY HAVE SOLID FINISHES ON KORN FERRY TOUR
J.T. Griffin and Paul Haley II both shot four rounds in the 60s last weekend at the REX Hospital Open in Raleigh, N.C., but finished far back in a tie for 23rd (12-under-par 272) as the winning score was 21-under-par at TPC Wakefield Plantation. Haley held position at No. 22 in the Korn Ferry Tour points standings.
Anders Albertson tied for 49th at 8-under 276, while Seth Reeves tied for 55th at 7-under 277. Reeves, a winner during this wrap-around season, sits 21st on the Korn Ferry Tour points list. Drew Czuchry, a mini-tour player who earned a spot at the REX Hospital Open through Monday qualifying, opened with a 69 but followed with a 75 and missed the cut.
Like the PGA Tour, the Korn Ferry Tour plays in South Carolina this week with the BMW Charity Pro-Am, where Ollie Schniederjans and Nicholas Thompson return to action after a week off and join the other four former Jackets.

JACKETS COME UP SHORT IN U.S. OPEN QUALIFYING
Chesson Hadley, Cameron Tringale and Vincent Whaley attempted to qualify for the upcoming U.S. Open Championship, each failing to do so Monday at different final qualifying sites.
Whaley came the closest, posting a 6-under-par total of 138 to come up two strokes short of a playoff for the final spot at the Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta.
That leaves only Stewart Cink, Matt Kuchar and Tyler Strafaci representing Georgia Tech in the 121st playing of the U.S. Open next week (June 17-20) at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego, Calif.
