Georgia Tech Men Retain Top Spot in the Eighth Edition of Mastercard Collegiate Golf Rankings

PRINCETON, N.J. (March 23) – The Georgia Tech men’s golf team is the top-ranked team in the eighth edition of the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings. The MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings, which are administered by the College Golf Foundation and compiled by Golfstat in cooperation with the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) and National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA), are determined by a computerized system based strictly on performance during the 1999-2000 collegiate golf season.

The MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings, the official rankings of the Rolex Collegiate Tour, will be released a total of 19 times throughout the 1999-2000 college golf season. The next date for release of the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings will be Wednesday, March 29, 2000.

Georgia Tech, which has won three Rolex Collegiate Tour events so far this season, is the top-ranked men’s team in the MasterCard Rankings for the fourth consecutive week. The Yellow Jackets, which won the Puerto Rico Golf Classic at Rio Mar and the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate last month, also won the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic during the fall. Clemson, which held the top spot in the MasterCard Rankings the entire fall, is ranked second. Northwestern, which won the Ping/Golfweek Preview during the fall, is ranked No. 3. Rounding out the top five is Arizona State, ranked No. 4, and Oklahoma State, ranked No. 5.

Matt Kuchar of Georgia Tech, who was the Rolex College Golfer of the Month for February, is the top-ranked men’s individual for the second straight week. Kuchar, who tied for the individual medalist honors at the Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate, has five top ten finishes in six starts this year. Luke Donald of Northwestern is ranked second. Rounding out the top five individuals are Bryce Molder of Georgia Tech, ranked No. 3, Lucas Glover of Clemson, ranked No. 4, and Charles Howell of Oklahoma State, ranked No. 5.
