Coming off a commanding 81-50 win over USC Upstate to close out non-conference play before the holiday break, Georgia Tech women’s basketball returns to the hardwood this week to open Atlantic Coast Conference play at No. 22 Florida State on Friday. The Yellow Jackets distributed their offense against USC Upstate on Dec. 20 with four finishing in double-figures to move their win streak to four-straight games. Rusne Augustinaite led the way with 14 points, while Tonie Morgan added 13 points and eight rebounds to just miss a double-double.
Florida State also brings a 9-3 record into conference play, having last defeated Alabama State on Dec. 20 by a 110-45 margin. Sophomore Ti’Niya Latson leads the Seminoles offensively on the year, averaging 19.2 points per game. Makayla Timpson leads FSU in rebounding, securing 9.0 rebounds per game, while also contributing 12.3 points. Florida State was picked to finish fifth in the ACC Preseason Predictions.
Georgia Tech and Florida State are meeting for the 56th time in program history on Friday, with FSU narrowly leading the series, 30-25. The Seminoles have won the last three meetings, including the last two in Tallahassee, after snapping a five-game win streak held by the Jackets. Tech was last victorious against FSU on Jan. 13, 2022 in Atlanta, and last won on the road on Feb. 18, 2021.
Competitive Drive Initiative Turn 2
Looking to build on the success of last year’s Competitive Drive Initiative, Georgia Tech, the Georgia Tech Foundation and Georgia Tech athletics are partnering once again for Competitive Drive Initiative Turn 2. Initially launched on Nov. 7, CDI Turn 2 has reached its initial goal of raising $2.5 million in new gifts to the Alexander-Tharpe Fund’s Athletic Scholarship Fund and has a new goal of raising $3 million in new gifts to the A-T Fund by Dec. 31. Georgia Tech and the Georgia Tech Foundation will match eligible gifts to accelerate the impact for Tech athletics and, like last year, not only will gifts to CDI Turn 2 be matched, but so will the contributor’s benefits in the way of A-T Fund giving levels and priority points.
