The final game of the White-Gold Series is set for Monday at 4 p.m. #TeamGold won Saturday’s game 7-6.
On the strength of Thomas Smith’s two-run homer in the first inning, #TeamWhite took a 2-0 lead to the fifth before the teams combined for 16 runs over the final three frames.
#TeamGold scored twice in the fifth to even the game at 2-2 then took the lead in the sixth thanks to a solo blast from Daniel Gooden to right and a two-run bomb from Wade Bailey to left.
On the verge of elimination, #TeamWhite struck four times on six hits in the bottom of the sixth, only to see that lead evaporate in the seventh. Brandon Gold walked, Grant Wruble singled and Coleman Poje was hit by a pitch to set the stage for Spingola, who hammered the first offering he saw over the wall in right for the one-run cushion.
In the bottom of the seventh, consecutive one-out singles from Trevor Craport and Cole Miller put the tying run in scoring position, and Innis ripped a single to center to cap the scoring.
Spingola, Bailey and Kel Johnson did a bulk of #TeamGold’s damage as the 1-2-3 hitters in the order combined to go 9-for-15 Sunday with six RBI and five runs.
Innis, Smith, Arden Pabst and Connor Justus each had two hits for #TeamWhite.
Both starters were solid as Zac Ryan fanned five for #TeamGold over four innings with three hits and two runs. Matthew Gorst went 4.1 innings and allowed two runs with two strikeouts and two walks.
