Cameron Tringale fired a two-under-par 70 on Sunday and is one stroke off the lead, while Georgia Tech came in at 10-over-par 298 and is seven shots off the pace after the first round of the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational in Windermere, Fla.
Tringale, a sophomore from Laguna Niguel, Calif., birdied three holes and bogeyed one en route to his 70 at the Isleworth Country Club, and is tied for second place behind Florida’s Toby Ragland (69). Tech also got a 74 from Roberto Castro, a 75 from David Dragoo and a 79 from Taylor Hall, tossing out an 80 from Adam Cohan on Sunday.
Tech is tied with Texas A&M at 298, seven shots off the pace of Georgia (three-over 291), which holds a one-stroke lead over South Carolina. Tennessee (293) is in third place, followed by Texas, Oklahoma State and Florida, all tied for fourth at 294. The top 15 teams in the 18-team field are within nine strokes of each other.
Castro, a senior from Alpharetta, Ga., is tied for 29th place individually, while Dragoo, a sophomore from Scottsdale, Ariz., making his fall debut, is tied for 39th.
