Tech Golfers Fall to 14th in Puerto Rico

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech’s golf team shot an 11-over-par 299 Tuesday and fell farther behind the pace after the second round of the Puerto Rico Classic in San Juan.

Tech’s 36-hole total of 595 puts the Yellow Jackets in 14th place heading into Tuesday’s final round on the 6,931-yard, par 72 River Course at Rio Mar Country Club.

Oklahoma shot 280 (8-under-par) Monday to take the lead in the team race with a tournament total of 563, 13 shots under par and three strokes ahead of Florida (277 – 566). First-round leader Clemson dipped to third place at 570 after posting a 289 Monday. NC State is in fourth place at even-par 576, and Georgia holds the fifth position at 582.

Freshman Kevin Larsen continued to pace the fifth-ranked Yellow Jackets with a 2-over-par 74 Monday, and is tied for 20th place at 1-over 145. Matt Hendrix of Clemson shot the day’s best round of 67 and moved into the lead for medallist honors at 7-under-par 137, two shots ahead of a group including Anthony Kim and Carlos Del Moral of Oklahoma and first-round leader Jack Ferguson of Clemson

Also counting for Tech Monday was Nicholas Thompson, who shot 74 and is tied for 47th individually at 149, Chan Wongluekiet with a 75 and Thomas Jordan with a 76.
