ATLANTA (Apr. 7) – Georgia Tech senior Carlton Forrester and junior Bryce Molder each shot one-under-par 71 Friday, pacing the top-ranked Yellow Jackets to an even-par 288 as a team and a tie for fifth place with fourth-ranked Georgia after one round of the Compaq U.S. Intercollegiate Championship in Los Cabos, Mexico.
Florida, the nation’s 17th-ranked team, blistered the Eldorado Golf Club with a team score of 271, which is 13 shots ahead of second place UNLV. Oklahoma State is in third at 286, followed by Arizona at 287.
Forrester and Molder are tied for 11th place individually with seven others, six shots behind Bubba Dickerson of Florida, who paced the Gators with a course record with a 65. Bryant Odom of Georgia is tied for second at 67.
Tech senior Matt Kuchar and sophomore Matt Weibring carded 73’s and are tied for 25th place. Freshman Troy Matteson is tied for 36th after posting a 75.
Saturday’s second round will be televised live on ESPN from 12-2 p.m. Eastern time. The final round Sunday will air on ESPN2 on tape delay.
