Greensboro, Ga. – Anders Albertson was 2-under-par through 12 holes of his second round, while Ollie Schniederjans was 3-under-par through 12 holes of his round Saturday when play was halted, lifting 10th-ranked Georgia Tech into fourth place midway through the second round of the Linger Longer Invitational.
After the opening round was halted due to rain and lightning Saturday morning, the scheduled second round could not be completed before darkness fell on the Great Waters Golf Course. Tech had shot an opening round 295 (7-over-par), and Albertson, who had shot an opening 72, and Schniederjans, after a first-round 74, were rallying the Yellow Jackets when play was suspended for the night.
The second round will be completed beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday, and the final round was cancelled due to continued rain and threat of severe weather.
No. 2-ranked Alabama (-13) shot a 7-under-par 281 in the first round and was 6-under for the second round through 12 holes. The Crimson Tide was 13 shots ahead of co-host Kennesaw State (E), 3-under for the second round, and No. 14 Oklahoma State (E), 1-under for the second round. Tech (+2) was 5-under for its second round, the best score of the round when play stopped.
No. 12 Georgia (+5) was in fifth place, followed by No. 31 Oklahoma (+7). Fourteen teams are competing.
The Sooners’ Michael Gellerman shot a first-round 68, and the Tide’s Cory Whitsett, who opened with a 67, were tied for first place individually at 5-under-par when play was halted. Albertson (-2) was three shots back and tied for eighth place, while Schniederjans (-1) was tied for 13th. Seventeen players were under par.
