Tech Closes Gap on Wolfpack After Two Rounds of ACC Golf

ATLANTA (APril 22) – Georgia Tech’s Bryce Molder shot a 5-under-par 67 Saturday to claim the individual lead, while the top-ranked Yellow Jackets posted a team total of 288 and remain in second place after two rounds of the Atlantic Coast Conference men’s golf championship at Badin Lake, N.C.

Molder, a junior from Conway, Ark., has a two-round score of 139, five strokes under par and two shots ahead of first-round leaders Carl Patterson of N.C. State and John Engler of Clemson. Both carded 71s and are tied for second place with Jay Morgan (69) of Wake Forest and Brad Hyler (70) of North Carolina.

Tech’s 288 score Saturday matched Clemson for the day’s best on the par-72 Old North State Club. N.C. State held onto its first-round lead with a 290-574, but its lead was pared to a single shot over the Yellow Jackets, who have a tournament total of 575. The Tigers are another three shots back at 578, followed by Wake Forest (290-584) and North Carolina (289-584), Duke (293-589), Maryland (302-597), Virginia (298-598) and Florida State (303-608).

Tech senior Matt Kuchar (Lake Mary, Fla.) is tied for eighth after a 73 Saturday for a tournament total of 144, and freshman Troy Matteson (Austin, Texas) also shot 73 and is tied for 10th at 145. Sophomore Matt Weibring (Plano, Texas) is tied for 16th after posting a 75 for a two-round total of 147. Senior Carlton Forrester (Gainesville, Ga.) added a 79 to his first-round 77 and is in 40th place.

The final 18 holes is set for Sunday, when Tech will attempt to win its second straight ACC title and sixth conference championship since 1991.
