THE FLATS – Freshman Ryan Peurifoy went 4-for-5 and the bottom of #TeamHyde’s order did a bulk of the damage as Hyde’s team scored eight unanswered runs and cruised to an 8-1 victory over #TeamIsaacs in Game 1 of the White-Gold Series Tuesday at Russ Chandler Stadium.
#TeamHyde pounded out 16 hits – just three for extra bases, with 13 coming from the bottom five hitters in the order. Peurifoy had four including a double, scored once and drove in a run. Fellow freshman Ryan Zentko had three hits, two RBI and scored twice. Junior Alex Cruz, sophomore Grant Wruble and freshman Elliott Barzilli each had two hits and each scored at least once.
Junior Josh Heddinger fired three perfect innings with three strikeouts in relief of junior starter Cole Pitts and Heddinger picked up the win. Pitts allowed a run on six hits in his Game 1 start and freshman Ben Parr closed it out for #TeamHyde with two scoreless frames.
After falling behind 1-0 in the fourth, #TeamHyde rallied for the tie in the bottom half thanks to Wruble’s RBI single to left that scored Cruz. In the fifth, #TeamHyde pulled ahead for good when Barzilli ripped an RBI triple down the left-field line and Peurifoy followed in the next at bat with an RBI infield single.
Mott Hyde and Zentko each added two-RBI singles as #TeamHyde pulled away with a four-run seventh inning that capped the scoring.
Junior Thomas Smith had two hits for #TeamIsaacs, who will look to even the best-of-seven series Thursday at 3:45 p.m. Freshman Brandon Gold doubled and gave #TeamIsaacs a 1-0 lead thanks to junior Jonathan Roberts’ RBI single in the fourth.
Senior Dusty Isaacs pitched three scoreless innings with two hits in his Game 1 start.
