THE FLATS – Freshman Blake Jackson ripped a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth that proved to be the difference as #TeamGold rallied to beat #TeamWhite, 7-6, in Game 1 of Georgia Tech’s annual White-Gold Series on Saturday at Russ Chandler Stadium.
Jackson finished 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI, while newcomers Kel Johnson, Wade Bailey and Coleman Poje each had two-hit efforts to pace #TeamGold.
There were four ties and three lead changes in the back-and-fourth, seven-inning affair.
Freshman Trevor Craport, who finished 2-for-3, launched a two-run home run to put #TeamWhite up 2-0 in the second inning and followed in the fourth with an RBI double to tie things at 3-3. Matt Gonzalez’s RBI single put #TeamWhite up 6-4 in the sixth before #TeamGold reclaimed the lead for good in the home half.
Junior Kyle Leach finished off #TeamWhite with a 1-2-3 frame in the seventh with two strikeouts to nail down the save. Junior Joe Wiseman fired two innings in relief of starter Ben Parr to earn the victory.
Gonzalez was 3-for-4 to lead #TeamWhite, with Ryan Peurifoy and Craport each registering two-hit efforts. Craport also scored twice.
Game 2 of the series is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. at Russ Chandler Stadium. #TeamGold sends Zac Ryan looking to clinch the series, while #TeamWhite counters with Matthew Gorst.
