TOP STORYLINES
• In one of the best weekend matchups around the country, No. 10 Georgia Tech and No. 5 Georgia square off in a reignited Clean, Old-Fashioned Hate series on March 4-6.
• The series will begin at Georgia Tech on Friday (6 pm..), before shifting to Athens on Saturday (2 p.m.) and finishing up at Coolray Field on Sunday (2 p.m.) as part of the 19th annual Spring Classic for the Kids.
• Tech and UGA are its most commonly played opponent, standing at 381 games played since 1898. UGA leads the all-time series 214-165-2 with Tech winning two of the last three annual series.
• The 10th-ranked Jackets have proved to be every bit of the offensive powerhouse they were touted to be in the preseason, hitting .342 with 96 runs through nine games.
• Chandler Simpson has been the spark plug for Tech, hitting .485 out of the leadoff with a .595 on-base percentage and eight stolen bases. In his 33 at-bats, he’s scored 17 times.
• Kevin Parada was named National Player of the Week after hitting .571 with 12 hits, four doubles and five home runs for 17 RBI last week.
• He remained hot against Georgia State on Tuesday, hitting his sixth home run in eight days.
• Also red-hot at the plate are Andrew Jenkins (.394), Drew Compton (.387), Tres Gonzalez (.375) and Colin Hall (.300).
• Tech’s pitching has impressed of late, working to a team ERA of 3.94, striking out a 108 – good for seventh nationally.
• Chance Huff commanded the zone, helping Tech shut out Gardner-Webb, and striking out nine overall.
• Zach Maxwell then followed suit, striking out a career-high 11 batters in a career-long 6.0 innings.
