Nissan #ProJackets Golf Report

April 11, 2017

Matt Kuchar won’t have to worry about earning an invitation back to The Masters for 2018. Though his current standing among the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking would give him a spot in the field, he secured an invitation for next year by tying for fourth place this year (top 12 finishers plus ties receive an invitation for next year’s tournament).

The three-time Georgia Tech All-American shot a 67 Sunday, which included three straight birdies around Amen Corner and an ace at the par-3 16th, and he wound up four shots out of the playoff between Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose. It was the 19th hole-in-one at the 16th hole in Masters history, and he celebrated by signing the ball and handing it to an 8-year-old boy in gallery.

Kuchar’s performance Sunday lifted him to 45th in the FedEx Cup standings as he heads to Hilton Head, S.C., this weekend for the RBC Heritage, at which he produced one of his six PGA Tour titles in 2014. He’ll be joined there by Roberto Castro, who missed the cut at The Masters last weekend, Stewart Cink, Bryce Molder and Ollie Schniederjans.

Larry Mize, the 1987 Masters champion playing for his 34th time at Augusta National, made the cut for the third time in the last four years and finished 52nd. At 44th in the Schwab Cup rankings, Mize returns to action this weekend at the TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth, Ga., in the Mitsubishi Electric Classic.

A very memorable week at Augusta. For many reasons. Magical tournament, incredible golf course. Demanding on every single shot. Every one.
