THE FLATS – It has been a memorable few weeks for Roberto Castro. Hectic, for sure, but it has all come together.
First, the Georgia Tech All-American went out to Hawai’i and missed the cut in the Sony Open, when he tied for 56th at the Career Builder Challenge. Then, as he was about to begin his opening round at the Farmers Insurance Open, he got the call that his first child was about to arrive, and he got on the first flight he could back to Atlanta.
A daughter, Stella, was born to Roberto and Katie Castro on Jan. 28, and after a week off, he returned to the West Coast and turned in a top-10 finish last weekend at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He shot 66-7067-74 for a 10-under-par total of 277 and tied for eighth place, and a paycheck of $203,000 which put him over $4 million in career earnings. He also moved up to 57th in FedEx Cup points.
Stewart Cink also turned in a solid weekend, a tie for 21st place with a 7-under-par total of 280, his best finish since tying for 17th at the CIMB Classic in the fall. It improved his FedEx Cup standing to 110th.
Both players will be back at it this weekend at famed Riviera Country Club for the Northern Trust Open, along with Matt Kuchar, Bryce Molder, and Cameron Tringale. All five players are among the top 125 in FedEx Cup points.
The Web.com Tour is off until March 17-20, when the tour returns to the States with the Chitimacha Louisiana Open. Richard Werenski, with a tie for second place in the last event in Colombia, is off to a fast start.
