Nissan #ProJackets Baseball Report

May 31, 2017

THE FLATS — Pitcher Buck Farmer headlined the Georgia Tech baseball #ProJackets this past week, as the righty earned a win in a spot start for the Detroit Tigers, while Charlie Blackmon was named the MLB NL Player of the Week.

The 26-year old Farmer made a spot start for the Tigers in a doubleheader versus the Chicago White Sox on May 27. Farmer went 6.1 scoreless innings and struck out a MLB career-high 11 batters to earn the win.

Blackmon, who had a superb week last week with three home runs and 12 RBIs while hitting .400 overall at the plate, has continued to lead the hottest team in baseball offensively this season. Over his last 10 games, Blackmon has hit .357 with four home runs, two triples, one double, 14 RBIs and eight run scored. His week was highlighted by a 4-for-4 night with a home run, a triple, a walk, three RBIs and a run scored versus St. Louis on May 26. He also blasted two home runs in a win at Philadelphia on May 23.

Derek Dietrich had a strong three-game swing from May 20-23, as he posted three straight two hit games and went 6-for-14 with a triple, a double, two RBIs and three runs scored during that stretch, while Matt Wieters has hit safely in seven of his last 10 games, including a 2-for-3 night with a double in the series opener versus San Diego on May 26.

Another #ProJacket retired from the game last week, as Mott Hyde was added to the Voluntarily Retired List on Sunday, May 28. (Click Here) Hyde was in his fourth season in the minor leagues and in his second full season with the Corpus Christi Hooks, the Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros.
