ATLANTA (April 23) – Georgia Tech’s Bryce Molder fired his second straight 67 Sunday and won the Atlantic Coast Conference individual medal by four shots, but the top-ranked Yellow Jackets were unable to overcome a final round charge by Clemson and finished second to the Tigers by five strokes in the team race.

Molder’s 8-under-par tournament total of 206 at the OldNorth State Club was four strokes better than first round leadersCarl Patterson of N.C. State (69-210) and John Engler of Clemson(69-210). The junior from Conway, Ark., thus became the first Techgolfer since 1994 and the fifth ever to win the ACC individualtitle. Mikko Rantanen, who won at Northgreen Country Club in RockyMount, N.C., was the last Jacket to win an ACC golf title.
Keyed by the performances of Engler, Jonathan Byrd (67) and D.J. Trahan (68), Clemson shot the tournament’s best score of 278 (10 under par) Sunday and stormed from third place to overtake Tech and N.C. State, which had led after each of the first two rounds.
Clemson finished the tournament at 8-under-par 856. Tech shot two-under-par 286 to finish at 3-under 861, followed by the Wolfpack, who posted a 288 for a 2-under-par total of 875. Wake Forest finished fourth, followed by North Carolina, Duke, Virginia, Maryland and Florida State.
Matt Kuchar (Lake Mary, Fla.) posted a 69 Sunday for Tech and tied for fourth overall at 3-under-par 213 with Byrd and Trahan. Freshman Troy Matteson shot 73 for the Jackets to finish 13th at 218, while Matt Weibring (79-226) tied for 31st and Carlton Forrester (77-233) finished in 40th place.
