WAIKOLOA, Hawaii (Feb. 18) — Georgia Tech junior Bryce Molder and senior Matt Kuchar both carded 3-under 69s to boost the Yellow Jackets’ top-ranked men’s golf team into first place Friday at the Taylor Made Waikoloa Intercollegiate.
Molder holds a 2-stroke lead over Kuchar in the individual standings with a two-day, 7-under total of 135. Kuchar is two back of his teammate with a two-round, 5-under tally of 137.
Tech, the defending tournament champions, entered the day tied for fourth place in the team race, but shot matched Stanford for the low round of the day with a 9-under 279 team total on the 6,594 yard, par 72 King’s Course.
With a two-day total of 560, Tech is 8-under as a team and has a 5-stroke lead over second-place Arizona State entering Saturday’s final round. The Sun Devils have a two-round, 3-under total of 565.
All four Tech scorers shot under par in Friday’s second round. In addition to Molder and Kuchar’s 69s, senior Carlton Forrester shot a 2-under 70, and freshman Troy Matteson had a 1-under 71.
