Kierra Fletcher Named to ACC All-Freshman Team

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech women’s basketball freshman guard Kierra Fletcher was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team on Tuesday by both the Blue Ribbon Panel and the league’s head coaches. Fletcher is one of eight freshmen in the league to be named to the team.

“Kierra has been an impact player at Georgia Tech since day one,” commented head coach MaChelle Joseph. “We asked her to play out of position and she has embraced it. She is establishing herself as one of the top playmaking guards in the ACC. This is a great honor for her, her family and our program.”

Fletcher was named to the All-Freshman Team after an impressive campaign, having started all 29 contests for the Yellow Jackets. She is one of only four freshmen in the league to have started every contest for their team this season.

On the season, Fletcher is averaging 7.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. In conference play, she is the team’s third-leading scorer, averaging 8.7 ppg against league teams. Additionally, the guard is second on the team in ACC games only, pulling down a remarkable 6.0 rpg. She is the fifth-ranked freshmen overall in the league in rebounding and ranks second in the league in ACC games only amongst all freshmen.

Fletcher has scored in double-figures eight times on the season, including posting a career-best 18 points in Tech’s win over North Carolina (Feb. 15). The freshman pulled down a personal-best 11 rebounds during non-conference play against UT Arlington (Dec. 10).

Fletcher is the 12th Yellow Jacket in program history to be named to the ACC All-Freshman Team. Francesca Pan earned the recognition last season by both parties. Fletcher is the eighth Jacket to earn the honor under Coach Joseph.

The ACC will announce its Player, Rookie, Defensive, Sixth Player and Coach of the Year on Wednesday morning.

The Jackets are set to open the 2018 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, facing 15th-seeded Clemson. The opening tip in Greensboro Coliseum is set for 3:30 p.m. on RSN. The winner of the first round game will advance to the second round on Thursday to face 7th-seeded Virginia at 6 p.m.
