Greensboro, N.C. – Georgia Tech’s James White and Virginia’s Ben Kohles have been named Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Golfers of the Month for February.
James White, a junior from Acworth, Ga., captured the medalist title at the Puerto Rico Classic, played February 20-22 in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. It was White’s second victory (10-under-par 206) this year, following up his win at the United States Collegiate Classic to end the fall season. White also tied for 10th individually at the Amer Ari Invitational (7-under 209), played February 2-4 in Waikoloa, Hawaii. White helped Georgia Tech to finish fourth as a team at the Amer Ari and second at the Puerto Rico Classic.
White, the nation’s 9th-ranked golfer according to this week’s Golfweek/Sagarin Index, has averaged 71.2 strokes over 18 rounds this year, which ranks fourth in the ACC and is a close second on the team to senior John-Tyler Griffin.
Ben Kohles (Jr., Cary, N.C.) won a three-way playoff for medalist honors at the John Burns Intercollegiate, played February 16-18 in Wahiawa, Hawaii, to open Virginia’s spring season. He had rounds of 71, 68 and 67 to finish at 10-under 206. His final round score helped Virginia set a single-round scoring record of 19-under 269. The 206 matched the best tournament score in his career. Earlier this season he won the Gary Koch Intercollegiate.
The ACC Men’s Golfer of the Month for February included tournaments played January through March 1, 2011.
