Georgia Tech #ProJackets Golf Report

THE FLATS – Seth Reeves and Cameron Tringale officially earn PGA Tour cards following the Web.com Tour Championship, joining Anders Albertson and Roberto Castro … This and more in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Report.

There will now be nine Georgia Tech alumni on the PGA Tour in 2018-19. Anders Albertson and Roberto Castro officially received their PGA Tour cards following the Web.com Tour regular season after finishing among the tour’s top 25 in earnings. Two more – Seth Reeves and Cameron Tringale – officially joined them Sunday after finishing in the top 25 in earnings in the tour’s four-event Finals series.

Reeves secured his place after posting top-5 finishes in the first two Finals events, the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship and the DAP Championship, and finished 12th in official money after placing 66th during the regular season. The 2014 All-American is excited to join three former teammates (Albertson, Ollie Schniederjans and Richy Werenski) when the 2018-19 Tour schedule opens Oct. 4-7 in Napa, Calif.

“I’m really excited,” Reeves said. “I mean, that was a really close-knit group of guys and we had a great team. So it’s just cool to have three of my other teammates on Tour and hopefully have some travel buddies. But then also with Roberto and Cameron getting their cards, it just shows you how good of a golf program Georgia Tech is and always producing those types of players. You’ve got a common denominator in Coach Heppler, so many thanks to him, too. He coaches everybody I think not only in college, but after when they’re in the pros and I think that’s what makes him so good. It’s just going to be a great year for Georgia Tech, I think.”

Tringale’s story might be even more amazing. A 10-year veteran on the PGA Tour, the California native has used the Web.com Tour Finals to regain his PGA Tour card for the second straight year after finishing outside the top 125 in FedEx Cup points. To say his back was against the wall would be an understatement.

After missing the cut in six straight PGA Tour events, Tringale made only one cut in the first three Web.com Finals events. But in the Finals, one big performance is all you need. Using shots like the one in the video below, Tringale opened the Web.com Tour Championship last weekend with a stellar 63, and finished 67-67-69 to tie for third place in the event. The performance vaulted him from 83rd to 21st in Finals money.

Those four join veterans Stewart Cink and Matt Kuchar, sixth-year player Chesson Hadley and third-year pros Ollie Schniederjans and Richy Werenski on the circuit for next season.

Ryder Cup:  For the first time since 2008, Kuchar will not compete for the United States in the Ryder Cup (this weekend in France). But he was chosen to be one of Jim Furyk’s vice-captains along with David Duval. Kuchar, who finished 15th in Ryder Cup points among U.S. players, competed in four consecutive Ryder Cup matches (2010, 2012, 2014, 2016), while Duval competed in 1999 and 2002.

PGA Tour Champions:  Larry Mize tied for 36th place at last weekend’s Sanford Invitational, and sits in 64th place in Schwab Cup earnings with two events remaining in the PGA Tour Champions regular season. The top 72 after the SAS Championship (Oct. 12-14) will advance to the Schwab Cup playoffs.
