Georgia Tech #ProJackets Golf Report

THE FLATS – Web.com Finals resume this week with three Yellow Jackets having already secured PGA Tour privileges for 2018-19 … There will be no Jackets in Atlanta for the Tour Championship … Former Jackets David Duval and Matt Kuchar named Ryder Cup vice captains … This and more in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Report.

As mentioned in this space last week, Georgia Tech will have eight former members of its illustrious golf program competing on the PGA Tour next season after 2014 graduate Seth Reeves locked up his 2018-19 privileges with his tie for fourth place in the second leg of the Web.com Finals.

His accomplishment means three Tech alumni on the Web.com Tour this year, including Anders Albertson and Roberto Castro, who both finished among the top 25 in regular-season earnings, have graduated to the PGA Tour for 2018-19. They join holdovers Stewart Cink, Chesson Hadley, Matt Kuchar, Ollie Schniederjans and Richy Werenski.

Albertson and Reeves return to action this week after an idle weekend in the middle of the Web.com Finals, competing in the Albertsons Boise Open along with Cameron Tringale, who is attempting to regain his PGA Tour card after finishing 195th in FedEx Cup points this year. The top 25 in earnings over the four-event Web.com Finals series are awarded PGA Tour cards, and he ranks No. 71 after the first two events. Roberto Castro, who won back his PGA Tour card by finishing 24th during the regular season, will return to action for the Web.com Tour Championship next week.

Hadley won the Albertsons Boise Open last year, the second of his two victories in 2017 that earned him back his PGA Tour card.

PGA Tour:  Hadley parlayed his strong Web.com Tour performance last year into an equally strong return to the PGA Tour, where he resided among the top 30 in FedEx Cup points for most of the year but slipped to 44th in the end after tying for 61st at last weekend’s BMW Championship. Still, he posted seven top-10 finishes and earned more than $2.7 million this year in official money (33rd), earning exemptions into the U.S. Open, the Open Championship and the PGA Championship.

Final FedEx Cup points rankings for Georgia Tech alumni in 2018: Cink (73), Kuchar (76), Schniederjans (98), Werenski (101), Tringale (195). All but Tringale kept their Tour cards for 2018-19.

Ryder Cup:  For the first time since 2008, Kuchar will not compete for the United States in the Ryder Cup (Sept. 28-30 in France). But he was chosen to be one of Jim Furyk’s vice-captains along with David Duval. Kuchar, who finished 15th in Ryder Cup points among U.S. players, competed in four consecutive Ryder Cup matches (2010, 2012, 2014, 2016), while Duval competed in 1999 and 2002.

Elsewhere:  Chris Petefish tied for 65th last weekend at the MacKenzie Investments Open on the Mackenzie Tour (PGA Tour Canada) … J.T. Griffin, who did not qualify for the Web.com Finals, picked up a third-place check at the River Run Country Club event on the G Pro circuit last week … Shun Yat Hak tied for 31st place at the Qinhuangdao Championship and is 35th in the PGA Tour China Order of Merit.
