THE FLATS – Seth Reeves made a strong opening bid in his quest to earn a PGA Tour card … Four of the five former Yellow Jackets in the FedEx Cup playoffs advance to the second leg … Paul Haley challenges for pro title … This and more in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Report.
Two former Yellow Jackets have already earned PGA Tour cards for 2018-19 via their performance in the Web.com Tour regular season this year, but Seth Reeves is making a bid to join them in the Finals.
Reeves, who finished 66th on the regular-season money list this year, tied for fifth place last weekend at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship, the first leg of the Web.com Finals. Spurred by a third-round 65, the 2014 Tech graduate posted a 72-hole total of 275 (-9) at the Ohio State University Scarlet course in Columbus, Ohio, three shots out of a two-man playoff that Robert Streb won.
The performance earned him $33,900 and gave him a good start in his bid to earn a PGA Tour card through the Web.com Finals. If he can finish among the top 25 in Finals earnings, he also will gain PGA Tour status for 2018-19, joining Anders Albertson and Roberto Castro.
Meanwhile, Albertson, who finished eighth in earning during the regular season, tied for 21st place , and Cameron Tringale, trying to regain his PGA Tour card after finishing 195th in FedEx Cup points this year, missed the cut. Castro, 23rd in Web.com earnings in the regular season, did not play last weekend and will not compete again until the Web.com Tour Championship, the last event in the Finals on Sept. 20-23.
Albertson, Reeves and Tringale will play the DAP Championship this weekend in Beachwood, Ohio.

PGA Tour: Five Yellow Jackets qualified for the FedEx Cup playoffs, which began last weekend with The Northern Trust in Paramus, N.J., and four advanced to the second leg this week at the Dell Technologies Championship, which runs Friday through Monday in Norton, Mass.
Only Chesson Hadley (T56) and Matt Kuchar (T60) made the cut at Ridgewood Country Club last weekend, and all five Yellow Jackets in the field lost ground in the FedEx Cup standings.
Hadley remains the only Jacket currently inside the top 30, sitting at No. 29 in his bid to make his first appearance in the Tour Championship. Cink, ranked No. 65 and in position to reach the third leg, has not played in the Tour Championship since 2009, when he finished 15th in the FedEx Cup race. Kuchar, who slipped to No. 74, has qualified for the Tour Championship the last eight years, finishing second in the FedEx Cup race in 2013 and fourth in 2014. Schniederjans is No. 95.
Kuchar and Schniederjans need strong performances this week to advance to the third leg (top 70 continue), the BMW Championship near Philadelphia, Pa.
Richy Werenski, who entered the playoffs No. 101 in the standings, missed the cut and slipped to No. 110, and failed to advance (the top 100 in FedEx Cup points move ahead to the second leg).
Elsewhere: Larry Mize tied for 19th place at last weekend’s Boeing Classic on the PGA Tour Champions, posting a 7-under-par 209 and moving up t0 63rd in the Schwab Cup money standings … Paul Haley, the 2011 ACC Champion and a former winner on the Web.com Tour, posted his best finish this season on the Adams Pro Tour, firing a closing 67 to finish second at the Southside Bank Open with a 72-hole total of 272 (-16), three shots off the lead and good for a $10,000 check. He ranks 23rd on the tour money list with more than $23,000 in 11 events … With the Adams Pro Tour and the MacKenzie Tour off this week, Drew Czuchry, Chris Petefish and Vincent Whaley are all in the field for the Howard Clark Memorial Classic in Greensboro, N.C., on the G Pro Tour.
