Georgia Tech #ProJackets Golf Report

It was a relatively quiet week for former Yellow Jackets in professional golf as PGA Tour Champions, Adams and G Pro Tours all idle … Two Jackets played the weekend each at The Greenbrier and on the Web.com Tour … Albertson followed up Web.com victory last week with a 20th-place finish … more in this week’s Georgia Tech #ProJackets Report.

Ollie Schniederjans and Richy Werenski, both in their second full seasons in the PGA Tour, advanced to the weekend at A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier last weekend in West Virginia, with Schniederjans tying for 23rd place and Werenski tying for 69th. Both players sailed easily into the weekend, Schniederjans posting rounds of 66-66, and Werenski 71-65. Each shot 69 on Saturday but fell back in Sunday. Schniederjans edged up slightly (to 80th) in FedEx Cup points, while Werenski dropped five spots to No. 116.

Both remain in good position for the FedEx Cup playoffs with some opportunities to improve in the coming weeks. Werenski is in the field for this week’s John Deere Classic, and likely for next week’s Barbasol Championship. Chesson Hadley, 17th in FedEx Cup points, returns to action after a week off at the John Deere, along with Cameron Tringle, who missed the cut by one stroke last weekend. Troy Matteson, who missed the cut at The Greenbrier, also is in the field for his seventh start of the year.

Across the Pond: Matt Kuchar, who has not played since the U.S. Open, is already in Scotland to prepare for next week’s Open Championship, and is in the field for this week’s Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open, played at Gullane Golf Club in East Lothian, Scotland. Ranked No. 27 in the Official World Golf Ranking, Kuchar also is ranked 70th in the European Tour’s Race to Dubai standings based on his performances in the Masters, U.S. Open and World Golf Championship events this season. Kuchar also sits No. 11 in the latest Ryder Cup rankings through last weekend; the top eight are automatic picks, with the final four spots on the team selected by captain Jim Furyk.

Web.com Tour: Anders Albertson, fresh off his two shot win at the Lincoln Land Championship last weekend, followed his victory with a solid weekend at the LECOM Health Challenge, tying for 20th place and slipping just one spot to ninth in Web.com Tour earnings this season. He and Roberto Castro, who remains 17th in earnings, are both comfortably inside the top 25, who receive PGA Tour cards at the end of the season.

Albertson shot rounds of 70-66-70-69 last weekend, and has not shot a round higher than 70 since the Rex Hospital Open in early June, and no round higher than 71 in his last 28 rounds, covering seven events. His scoring average of 69.55 in 2018 ranks seventh on the Web.com Tour, and he is tied for second in most rounds in the 60s, with 31 in 15 events.

Elsewhere: PGA Tour Champions (Larry Mize), PGA Tour China (Shun Yat Hak) and G Pro Tour all resume play this weekend, while the Adams Pro Tour (Vincent Whaley) swings back into action next week. Bo Andrews, Drew Czuchry and Chris Petefish are in the field for the G pro Tour’s Kannapolis Open, which began Tuesday.
