THE FLATS – Georgia Tech sophomore Christo Lamprecht, an All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection and a third-team All-American last spring, is set to compete this weekend a member of the International team for the 2022 Arnold Palmer Cup. The annual competition is hosted by Golf Club de Genève Friday through Sunday in Geneva, Switzerland.
The three-day event features competition between Team USA and Team International involving both men and women, beginning with 12 mixed four-ball matches on Friday (12 groups of two-person teams). Saturday begins with foursomes matches between the men’s and women’s teams in the morning, followed by mixed foursomes matches in the afternoon (both sessions are 12 groups of two-person teams). Competition concludes Sunday with 24 singles matches. Each team is composed of 12 men’s and 12 women’s players.
The team with the most points at the conclusion of the four rounds of play will be the Arnold Palmer Cup Champion. If the two sides are tied, Team USA will retain the Cup. Team USA defeated the Internationals, 33-27, in 2021 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.
Lamprecht finished the spring ranked No. 27 in the nation by both Golfstat and the Golfweek/Sagarin Index, and is currently No. 54 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. He tied for ninth place (287, -1) last week in the European Amateur Championship in Valencia, Spain.
The George, South Africa native has posted six top-10 finishes in 12 events, including a tie for third place in stroke play and a pair of match victories at the ACC Championship. He also tied for second place at the Southern Highlands Collegiate, fourth at The Calusa Cup and eighth at The Goodwin in the spring. The rising junior led the Yellow Jackets in stroke average at 70.22, which ranks No. 6 in program history for a single year.
Practice Round/Clinic
The International team was selected from the first six men’s and women’s players in the the Arnold Palmer Cup Ranking. The remaining players were selected by using five committee picks and one coach’s pick.
Lamprecht is the 10th different Georgia Tech golfer to compete in the annual competition, and the first to represent the International team. He represented his home country in the 2021 Spirit International which was held in Trinity, Texas, as well as the 2017 and 2019 Junior Presidents Cup matches.
