ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team opened its 2008-09 season with its first official practice Friday afternoon at Alexander Memorial Coliseum.
The Yellow Jackets scrimmaged for an hour and a half after a quick explanation of updated rules from the officials on hand. The team looked rusty at times but showed off their all-around athleticism and defensive prowess.
Freshman Sasha Goodlett made her presence known right away, scoring 10 points and grabbing seven rebounds on the day. Freshman Mo Bennett also had a nice debut, registering eight steals in the scrimmage. Sophomore Deja Foster, who showed tremendous improvement during the offseason, made some nice drives to the basket on her way to six points.
The Yellow Jackets will open their 2008-09 campaign on Sunday, November 9 with an exhibition game against the Southeastern Hoops Report All-Stars at 2 p.m. in the Alexander Memorial Coliseum.
