The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team met with the media and held its first practice in Baton Rouge at the Peter Maravich Assembly Center on Saturday in preparation for its first-round NCAA Tournament game against LSU. The #10-seed Yellow Jackets face the #7-seed Tigers at 12:50 p.m. ET on ESPN2 on Sunday.

“First of all, we’re just very excited to be back in the NCAA Tournament after six straight trips and sitting out last year, to be back for the seventh time in eight years is just very exciting for our program,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “We felt like that year we had off made us more hungry, and I really give my players a lot of credit because they did a lot of work in the off season to turn things around and get us back in the NCAA Tournament.”

Upon arriving at the Peter Maravich Assembly Center, Coach Joseph, senior Tyaunna Marshall, junior Sydney Wallace and freshman Kaela Davis met with local media during a press conference.

“I think when you play anybody, you have to have respect for whoever you’re playing,” Marshall said. “Me and Syd are experienced, and we’ve been here before, and then Kaela who’s a hard-working player that she is, we’re going to come in and play our game regardless of who we are going up against,” Marshall said. “We have respect and we’re going to give 100 percent regardless.”

Following the press conference, the team practiced at LSU. This will be the first meeting between the Jackets and Tigers in school history. The Yellow Jackets are 8-53 all-time against SEC schools. Stay tuned to RamblinWreck.com for updates on the Jackets throughout the NCAA Tournament.
