April 15, 2018

Box Score

DURHAM, N.C. – Inclement weather moved the match indoors after the first set of singles, where Georgia Tech men’s tennis was unable to down No. 20 Duke, dropping a 4-1 decision on Sunday afternoon at the Ambler Tennis Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets (5-15, 1-9 ACC) finish their grueling road trip of four-straight top-25 foes while the Blue Devils (15-10, 6-4 ACC) were able to snap a slight, two-match losing streak.

Despite the loss, the highlight of the day was junior Chris Yun adding to his current win streak, pushing it to six-straight victories after defeating Duke’s Ryan Dickerson, 6-2, 6-3. Yun is 7-1 since returning to the lineup on March 18.

Elsewhere in singles, Elijah Melendez was unable to down Robert Levine, 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 4 spot, before No. 16 Nicolas Alvarez of Duke defeated No. 54 Carlos Divar, 6-3, 6-2. Phillip Gresk then fell in a tough match 7-5, 6-3 to Nick Stachowiak to clinch the match for the Blue Devils.

In doubles, the No. 81 duo of Stachowiak and Sean Sculley defeated Melendez and Yun, 6-3, while Gresk and Andrew Li were unable to outlast Dickerson and Jason Lapidus, 6-1.

Georgia Tech men’s tennis closes out the regular season next weekend at home when it hosts Notre Dame (April 20) and Boston College (April 22). First serve for Notre Dame is set for 5 p.m. while Boston College is set for 11 a.m. with Senior Day festivities taking place prior to start at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.
