THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team is ranked No. 22 in the 2012-13 preseason Associated Press poll, released by the AP Oct. 27.
The complete AP poll can be found here.
It is only the second time the Yellow Jackets have been ranked in the preseason AP poll. Tech appeared 19th in the 2009 preseason poll. That year, the Yellow Jackets finished with a 23-10 overall record, advanced to the semifinals of the ACC Tournament and made the NCAA Tournament.
Georgia Tech finished last season ranked No. 15 in the AP poll, the highest the Yellow Jackets have ever been ranked by the media.
The Yellow Jackets are one of four ACC teams ranked in the initial poll – Duke is No. 3, Maryland is No. 5 and Miami is No. 24. Tech was picked third by both the coaches and the media in the ACC preseason poll behind Duke and Maryland.
Six teams on Tech’s 2012-13 schedule are ranked to begin the season, including Tennessee (No. 20) whom the Yellow Jackets will open the year against at 2 p.m. on Nov. 11. Georgia Tech is hoping for the matchup with the Lady Vols to be the program’s first sellout.
Season tickets, a three-game Sunday ticket package and single-game tickets are all now on sale at RamblinWreck.com.
