THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team picked up its second preseason ranking on Tuesday when the USA TODAY Sports/ESPN Top 25 Coaches Poll was released by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.
The coaches ranked the Yellow Jackets No. 20 to begin 2012-13 after ranking Tech No. 10 following the 2011-12 season. The Associated Press ranked Georgia Tech No. 22 when it announced its preseason poll Oct. 27.
“I am very excited for our players and our program to be considered one of the top 25 teams in the nation,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “This will be a very exciting year. We are on a journey to be the best we can be by February.”
Much like the AP poll, four ACC women’s teams are ranked. Duke is No. 3, Maryland is No. 5 and Miami is No. 23. Six of Georgia Tech’s 2012-13 opponents begin the season ranked.
The Yellow Jackets will begin the season at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11 against the Tennessee Lady Volunteers. The Lady Vols are ranked No. 16 by the coaches and No. 20 by the AP. Georgia Tech, which will be playing its first game at the new McCamish Pavilion against UT, is hoping for the matchup with the Lady Vols to be the program’s first sellout.
Season tickets, a three-game Sunday ticket package and single-game tickets are all now on sale at RamblinWreck.com.
