Women’s Basketball Climbs to No. 16 in AP Poll

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech women’s basketball climbed one spot in the latest Associated Press poll released on Monday, moving to No. 16.

Georgia Tech is one of six Atlantic Coast Conference teams listed among the nation’s top 25, joining No. 3 Louisville, No. 5 NC State, No. 15 Duke, No. 17 Notre Dame and No. 24 North Carolina.

In its lone game last week, the Yellow Jackets (10-2, 1-0 ACC) rolled to a 78-49 victory over Boston University to close out non-conference play last Tuesday. Two Yellow Jackets finished with double-figure scoring numbers paced by Eylia Love’s career-high 19 points. Lorela Cubaj followed with a double-double behind 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds to mark her fifth of the season.

Georgia Tech ranks first in the ACC and nation in scoring defense, and also holds the top spot in field goal percentage defense. Individually, Cubaj leads the ACC and ranks fourth in the nation in rebounds per game, averaging 12.6. She is also second in the country in defensive rebounds per game (9.8 rpg).

Up next, Georgia Tech returns to ACC play on Thursday, Dec. 30 visiting Pitt. Tip is slated for 4 p.m. on the ACC Network Extra.
