THE FLATS –Rising sophomore Katarina Vuckovic of the Georgia Tech women’s basketball team will play for the U20 Serbian National Team this July at the 2014 European Championship in Udine, Italy.
At the European Championships, Serbia will play in Group C against the Slovak Republic, Sweden and Ukraine. The first game for Vuckovic and team Serbia will be against the Slovak Republic on July 3rd. Before traveling to Italy for the European Championship, team Serbia traveled to Turkey for a friendly tournament. Serbia defeated Russia and Belorussia but fell to Turkey.

Vuckovic will be joined by incoming Yellow Jacket Danica Piper on team Serbia. Incoming freshman Antonia Peresson will also compete in the 2014 European Championship, playing for Italy. Simina Avram, who will also join the Jackets in the fall, will play for Romania in the Division B U20 European Championship in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Vuckovic is no stranger to playing in the European Championships for Serbia. The Smederevo, Serbia native won a bronze medal with the Serbian U18 Team at the 2012 European Championship. In 2013, Vuckovic helped the U19 Serbian team to an eighth place finish while averaging 9.8 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game during the 2013 FIBA U19 World Championship.
During her freshman season as a Yellow Jacket, Vuckovic saw action in 27 games, averaging 3.5 points per game and 2.4 rebounds per game. She had five games with at least three assists and scored in double-figures three times. Vuckovic scored a season-high 14 points against Virginia and made nine 3-pointers throughout the 2012-13 season.
